Chapter 9 - Daniel's Threat

Elena looked up with tear-blurred eyes at the dark silhouette of her husband on the rooftop. The distance of one floor wasn't too far for her to see the sheer callousness in his posture. The physical pain was now nothing compared to the shattering of her soul.
"Daniel... How could you treat us, treat your own son like this? Do you have no heart?"
He remained standing as still as a stone statue. No explanation, no justification. His silence was the cruelest answer of all. At this moment, from below, Rosa tried to use her dying breath to speak. Her voice was weak but distinct in the quiet night.
"Because... he knows... if this baby is born, it will reveal all the filthy truths of him and his mother!"
Rosa's words were like a torch thrown into a powder keg. Beatriz's face instantly turned pale, then flushed red with panic and fury. She leaned over the ledge.
"Shut your mouth, you old hag! Do you want to die right now?!"
Elena painfully lowered her head to look at the old maid trapped between her legs. Her mind was reeling.
"What truth? Aunt Rosa, what truth are they hiding from me?"
Rosa squeezed Elena's ankles to lessen the pulling force, trying to keep the young woman from losing her grip. She panted.
"The truth is... Daniel never wanted you to get pregnant. This was all an act!"
"That makes no sense! He was the one who pushed me to start a family, he was the one who wanted a child!"
"Because the master is about to pass away! He needed a legitimate heir before the will was read!"

Daniel leaned over the edge of the abyss, his voice roaring with a lethal threat.
"Rosa! If you dare say one more word, I swear I will find and kill your daughter!"
