Chapter 66 - The Split

Elena grabbed his arm, fear flashing in her eyes.
"You can't leave us here. Daniel knows this house better than anyone."
"I am leaving you with ten of my best men," Alejandro promised, pulling her into a fierce, tight embrace. "They have orders to shoot on sight. Lock the panic room. I will handle the port and be back before the sun comes up."
Elena knew he had to protect the empire they had built. She nodded, kissing him deeply.
"Come back to us."
"Always."
Alejandro took half the security detail and sped toward the burning docks. Elena returned to the panic room, the heavy steel door sealing shut with a deafening metallic clang.

Outside the estate, hiding in the thick canopy of the surrounding woods, Daniel watched the convoy of SUVs leave the property through his thermal binoculars. He smiled, a twisted, jagged expression in the dark.
Alejandro had taken the bait. The king had left the castle, leaving the queen and the prince behind.
