Chapter 27

The Clinic Mystery
Elena touched her stomach, her mind racing to connect the final, most horrifying puzzle piece.
"If you were in Mexico... how did they use you to make me pregnant? When I was in that coma?"
Alejandro’s expression darkened with disgust.
"When my grandfather's health began to fail, he amended his will. He decreed that the estate would only pass to Daniel if he produced a biological grandson, proven by a mandatory DNA test. My grandfather always suspected Daniel wasn't a true Valdés."
"Daniel is sterile," Elena realized aloud, the pieces finally clicking together. "That’s why we tried for two years and nothing happened."
"Exactly. Beatriz panicked. She couldn't use a random sperm donor, because the child would fail the genetic test against my grandfather's DNA. She needed real Valdés blood."
"She tracked you down," Elena said, horrified.
"Two years ago, I had a routine surgery in a private clinic in Europe. I didn't know Beatriz owned shares in that hospital. She paid the surgeons to extract and freeze my genetic material while I was under anesthesia."

Alejandro stood up, pacing the room.
"When you had your car accident, she saw her perfect opportunity. She artificially inseminated you while you were comatose, creating an heir that possessed genuine Valdés DNA to fool the lawyers. You and I were nothing but pawns in her sick game."
