Chapter 80 - The Unbreakable Vow

The storm began to break, the heavy rain slowing to a gentle drizzle. Police sirens wailed in the distance, converging on the estate.

Alejandro dropped the bloody knife into the mud. He turned and ran toward Elena and Mateo.

Elena was sitting up, holding her bleeding shoulder, but she was smiling. Mateo was huddled against her side, completely unharmed.

Alejandro dropped to his knees, pulling them both into his arms. He held them so tightly he was shaking, burying his face in Elena’s wet hair.

"I've got you," he whispered, tears mixing with the rain on his face. "I've got you."

"We're okay," Elena breathed, kissing his bruised cheek. "We're all okay."

Paramedics and heavily armed police officers swarmed the garden moments later. They loaded Elena onto a stretcher to treat her shoulder, and Alejandro carried Mateo in his arms.

As they walked past the flashing red and blue lights toward the ambulances, Alejandro looked back at the mansion. The fire in the upper hallway had been extinguished by the sprinkler system. The estate was bruised, scarred by the night's violence, but the foundation remained perfectly solid.

There were no more shadows left to hide in. The past had finally been eradicated.

Alejandro looked down at his son, then over at his fierce, beautiful wife. The war was definitively over. They walked out of the garden together, stepping into the absolute, unbreakable light of their future.
