Chapter 8 - Dangling by the Balcony

Dust from the plaster flew everywhere. Elena gasped for air, cold sweat drenching her forehead. Her arms were bearing an enormous pulling force, because she was not just holding the weight of herself and her baby.

Below her, Rosa was suspended in mid-air. During the impact, the old woman's entire body had slipped down and become wedged tightly between Elena's legs. The weight of a full-grown adult dragged Elena down, causing her fingers to start bleeding from the friction against the rusty iron bars.

"Rosa! Are you okay?!"

Elena yelled, her voice breaking from the pain. The old woman laboriously tilted her wrinkled face upward. A stream of bright red blood was running down from her forehead to her chin, dripping drop by drop into the darkness below. Rosa's breath was as fragile as a thread.

"Don't... don't move, Elena..."

"I can't hold on much longer! My hands are about to tear off!"

Elena sobbed. Currently, her upper torso was gripping the balcony, while from the waist down, she was completely dangling outside the building. The slippery metal surface caused her ten fingers to slide back millimeter by millimeter. On the ten-story rooftop, two dark figures were standing, looking down. Daniel and Beatriz.

"They're still alive! Damn it!"

Beatriz hissed in anger seeing the two victims stuck on the ninth floor. Daniel stood there, looking down at his groaning wife without a single expression on his face.

"Not for long. Her hands are about to slip."
