Chapter 65 - The Decoy

By the time Alejandro and Elena arrived at the mansion, it was an armed camp. Searchlights swept the perimeter, and guard dogs patrolled the tall iron fences.

Elena ran straight to the panic room, pulling a sleepy Mateo into her arms.

"Mommy? Why are we in the quiet room?" Mateo asked, rubbing his eyes.

"We are just practicing our emergency drills, baby," Elena lied smoothly, kissing his forehead.

Alejandro was in the central security hub, monitoring a wall of screens. At 3:00 AM, an explosion rocked the city skyline in the distance. The radio on Alejandro’s desk crackled to life.

"Sir, we have a massive breach at the main shipping port! Multiple explosive devices detonated in the primary warehouses. The port authority is calling for you. They think it's a cartel hit."

Alejandro stared at the screen showing the burning port—his company's most vital asset. It was a billion-dollar catastrophe.

"It's a distraction," Elena said, stepping into the security hub. "Daniel is trying to draw your men away from the house."

"I know," Alejandro said, his jaw locked tight. "But if I don't send my men to secure the port, the federal investigators will swarm the company. I have to go, Elena."
