Chapter 6 - The Husband's Blade

Rosa looked up at Daniel, her eyes wide with absolute horror. She couldn't believe what she was seeing. The young man she had watched grow up since he was a baby was now holding a knife directed at his own wife and child.

"Mr. Daniel... What are you doing?"

"Get out of the way, Rosa."

Daniel's voice was deep, soulless, and so cold that it seemed to freeze the surrounding air. He did not even look into Elena's eyes.

"Are you crazy? She is your wife! She is pregnant with your own biological son!"

Ignoring Rosa's desperate pleas, Daniel took step after step toward the edge of the roof, where the nylon rope was bearing the weight of two lives. Elena's mind went completely blank. Everything in front of her seemed to blur.

"Daniel, please... What are you doing? We can talk about this! Just help me up, I'm begging you!"

She sobbed, pleading with her beloved husband. Daniel crouched down. He didn't look at her, but stared intently at the rope that was pulled tight like a guitar string. He placed the cold metal blade against the surface of the rope.

"That baby cannot live, Elena."

"But he is your son! He is your flesh and blood!"

At this moment, Daniel slowly raised his eyes to look at her. It was a gaze devoid of love, devoid of pity, holding only a terrifyingly cruel and empty void.
