Chapter 37

The Birth of the Heir

"One more push, Elena! You're doing brilliantly!" the doctor encouraged.

With a final, exhausted cry, Elena pushed with all her remaining strength. A second later, the bright, powerful wail of a newborn baby filled the delivery room.

Tears immediately flooded Elena's eyes. She fell back against the pillows, panting heavily.

"It's a boy," the doctor announced, smiling as the nurses quickly cleaned the screaming infant. "A healthy, perfect baby boy."

They wrapped the baby in a warm blanket and handed him to Alejandro. The hardened, ruthless businessman, who had built empires and taken down criminals, suddenly looked incredibly fragile. He stared down at the tiny, red face of his biological son, his hands trembling slightly.

He walked over to the bed and gently placed the baby onto Elena's chest.

"He's beautiful," Alejandro whispered, a single tear escaping his eye. "He has your nose."

Elena looked down at the child, her heart swelling with an overwhelming, absolute love. She looked up at Alejandro, the man who had saved them both.

"He needs a name," Elena said softly.

"Mateo," Alejandro suggested. "It means 'Gift of God'."

"Mateo Valdés," Elena smiled, kissing her son's forehead. "The true heir."
