Chapter 19 - The Flying Blade
Seeing Rosa about to reveal the earth-shattering secret, Daniel didn't hesitate for another second. He stepped back half a pace, swung his arm, and hurled the sharp knife violently into the void. The blade sliced through the wind, flying in a straight trajectory directly toward Rosa's throat.
Human survival instinct kicked in. To defend herself, Rosa was forced to let go of Elena's calf with one hand to swat the flying knife away. Thwack! The blade grazed past, carving a deep gash into the old woman's forearm before plummeting into the deep abyss.
But that arm-swinging motion robbed her of her final anchor. Her remaining hand, slippery with sweat and blood, could no longer support her body weight. It peeled away, slowly detaching from Elena's leg.
Rosa went into a free fall down into the pitch-black abyss.

Elena screamed from the bottom of her lungs, trying to thrust her leg out to catch her, but it was useless. That sudden movement caused her to lose another finger on the railing. Only three bleeding fingers were keeping her tethered to life.
Daniel let out a satisfied breath. He stepped right up to the edge of the railing, raising his pointed leather shoe, preparing to stomp hard on Elena's frail fingers to finish his dirty work. Behind him, Beatriz also gave a cold, triumphant smile. Everything was about to end. The secret would be buried forever.
