Chapter 17 - The Final Code
Inside the house, a final, deafening Crash rang out. The wooden door splintered open. The hinges snapped, flying hard against the wall. Daniel, with eyes red as a demon's and the knife firmly grasped in his hand, had broken down the door and stormed in.
His heavy footsteps stomped across the hardwood floor. Elena looked down at Rosa's hands. One of the old woman's hands had gone limp, slowly slipping away from her calf.
"No! Wait! Listen to me! You cannot die!"
Rosa used her last ounce of strength, looking up at Elena with cloudy eyes, and rapidly whispered her final, crucial words.
"Listen closely to what I say, Elena. In my shabby room in the storage quarters... there is an iron box hidden behind the large mirror. The passcode is your birthday. Inside it... you will find all the medical records."
"What medical records? What are you saying?!"
"The papers, photos, and DNA samples proving... who the real biological father of the baby in your womb is. It is your lifeline!"
