Chapter 14 - The Truth in the Hospital

Vague memories flooded Elena's mind. It was true. That horrific accident had nearly taken her life. When she woke up, her entire body was bandaged, and the first person she saw was Daniel, gripping her hand tightly by the hospital bed, his eyes dark with worry. Her mother-in-law was there too, asking about her with deep concern. At least, that was the act they had put on and the story they had told her.

"What... what actually happened during the days I was unconscious?"

Elena's voice trembled violently. Not from the cold, but from a primal, deep-seated terror gnawing at her mind. Rosa began to sob aloud, the remorse of being an accomplice in keeping this secret tearing her apart.

"While you were in a deep coma, unaware of anything... Beatriz used a massive amount of money to bribe the head doctor. She ordered them to perform a medical procedure on your body... completely without your consent."

Elena's heart felt as if it were being squeezed. A medical procedure while she was unconscious?

"What procedure?! Tell me!"

She screamed, tears pouring down. Before Rosa could utter the brutal answer about artificial insemination using the true heir's specimen, a loud noise echoed from inside the ninth-floor apartment. There were hurried footsteps. The glass door to the balcony was suddenly yanked open. Warm light from the living room spilled out onto the dark balcony.

"My God! What is happening here?!"
