Chapter 33

The Trial - Part One

The courtroom was packed to the brim with reporters, eager to witness the climax of the century's biggest scandal. Elena sat at the prosecutor's table, her baby bump now prominent and beautiful under her tailored maternity dress.

Beatriz took the stand first. Dressed in drab prison gray, she tried to play the role of a frail, confused old woman. She wept without tears, claiming she only wanted to protect her family from a hysterical daughter-in-law.

Then, it was Rosa's turn.

The courtroom fell dead silent as the elderly maid, walking with a cane, took the oath. With a clear, unshakeable voice, Rosa detailed three decades of abuse. She spoke of the baby swap, the kidnapping of Maria, the forged documents, and finally, the horrific night on the rooftop.

"She ordered him to cut the rope," Rosa said, pointing a trembling but defiant finger at Beatriz. "She laughed while we were dangling over the edge. There is no insanity in that woman. Only pure evil."

Beatriz’s facade cracked. She slammed her hands on the witness stand, screaming curses at her former maid until the judge ordered the bailiffs to restrain her. The jury watched in absolute disgust.
