Chapter 75

One Year Later

A year and a half passed in the blink of an eye. The coastal house had completely transformed. The bulletproof steel shutters had been replaced by soft white curtains billowing in the wind. The front yard corner, once rigged with explosive traps, was now a vibrant flower garden that I tended to myself.

Daniel had set up a small carpentry workshop in the garage. The hands that once only knew how to dismantle firearms and snap enemy throats were now carefully sanding oak planks to make furniture.

"What do you think of this chair?" Daniel asked, wiping sweat from his forehead, proudly pointing to a newly finished wooden armchair.

"It's beautiful," I smiled, stepping up to hug him from behind. "But I think we're going to need a smaller one."

"A smaller chair? What for?" Daniel turned around, frowning in confusion.

I didn't answer immediately; I just offered a mysterious smile and stood on my tiptoes to kiss his lips. A sweet secret was growing inside me, a secret that would change our lives forever.
