Chapter 63 - Cleaning Up the Mess

We didn't have time to rest. The crane's collapse and gunfire would inevitably draw attention. Police would be here soon.

I tore a strip of fabric from my tactical jacket, bandaging Daniel’s wound. He gritted his teeth, not letting out a single groan.

"We have to leave," I said, helping him up.

Before leaving, Daniel reached down, retrieved the black Knight chess piece he had carried from home, and placed it on Kael’s chest. A final mark of an ended bloodline.

We scrambled down from the warehouse roof, returning to the SUV hidden in the fog. I drove through the empty streets, back toward the coast. Along the way, I used a burner phone to contact an anonymous "cleanup" organization we had worked with before, providing them the coordinates of the shipyard. They would ensure the police found nothing that could trace back to us.

By the time we pulled into our driveway, the eastern sky was turning a soft pink. A new day had begun.
