Chapter 15 - The First Breach

The silence in the dark house was deafening, broken only by the violent crashing of the rain against the roof.

Suddenly, a sharp, piercing BEEP echoed from the tactical monitor on the kitchen island.

"Perimeter alarm tripped,"

Daniel whispered in the dark.

"Sector three. The back deck."

"I've got the front door,"

Caleb said, racking a shotgun with a terrifyingly calm efficiency.

"Hannah,"

Daniel turned to me, his eyes catching the faint moonlight filtering through the cracks in the steel plating.

"Get into the nursery. Lock the heavy deadbolt. Do not come out, no matter what you hear. Do you understand me?"

"I understand,"

I promised, kissing his cheek in the dark.

"Come back to me."

May you like

"Always,"

Daniel vowed.
