Chapter 48 - The Ghost Named Kael

We took the box back to the living room. The morning’s peace had completely vanished, replaced by a suffocating tension. Daniel sat on the sofa, eyes locked on the black Knight.

"Who is Kael?" I broke the silence. "I thought all the top leaders of the Organization died in the central tower explosion."

Daniel shook his head, rubbing his face with both hands.

"Kael wasn't a leader. He was a cleaner. A freelance bounty hunter who took orders directly from the Shadow Council. He was the one who taught me all my assassin skills."

My heart pounded. The man who taught Daniel how to become a killing machine? That meant he knew every habit, every tactic, and every weakness Daniel possessed.

"What does this chess piece mean?" I asked.

"During my training years, he and I often played chess. The black Knight was his favorite move—a move that doesn't follow a straight line, always attacking from the blind spot," Daniel explained. "He sent this to tell me the game isn't over. He found us."

I looked out the window; the vast ocean suddenly felt like a giant trap.

"What does he want? Money? Revenge?"

May you like

"Kael doesn't care about money. He cares about the honor of a hunter. The fact that I abandoned the Organization and destroyed it is an insult to him."

Daniel looked at me, his eyes filled with determination. "He won't hurt you. We have to leave immediately."
