Chapter 66

The New Normal
Three months had passed since that bloody morning. The ghosts of the past seemed to have truly let us go. The wound on Daniel's shoulder had healed, leaving a long, pale white scar. The coastal wooden house was no longer an underground fortress filled with traps and guns. We had removed the steel window shutters, allowing light and the sea breeze to flood every corner.
"I think we should repaint the living room," I said, holding a diverse color palette.
"How about light ocean blue?" Daniel suggested, wiping the dishes dry with a smile. "It matches the view outside."
I looked at him, feeling a spreading warmth. The man who was once the Organization's coldest killing machine was now calmly discussing house paint colors. We walked on the beach every afternoon, not carrying hidden weapons, not constantly looking over our shoulders. The sleepless nights plagued by nightmares also grew sparse. A normal life turned out to be the most extraordinary thing we had ever experienced.

"Perfect," Daniel replied, pressing a soft kiss to my hair. "Whatever you want, we'll do."
