Chapter 16 - Defense of the Yellow Room

I slipped into the nursery and silently locked the heavy steel deadbolt Daniel had installed the day before.
The yellow walls were completely swallowed by the darkness. I pulled Aaron from his carved wooden cradle and huddled into the far corner of the room, behind a heavy oak dresser.
Aaron whimpered slightly.
"Shh, my sweet boy,"
I whispered, pressing my lips to his warm forehead.
"Mommy is right here. Nothing is going to hurt you."

Suddenly, the deafening roar of a shotgun blast echoed from the ground floor, followed immediately by the rapid, terrifying staccato of automatic gunfire.
The siege had officially begun.
