Chapter 62 - The Victor

Daniel reacted with lightning speed. He caught Kael’s wrist, stopping the blade inches from his heart. They strained against each other, the tension peaking. Daniel’s wounded shoulder was bleeding profusely, sapping his strength. The blade inched closer.

I couldn't wait any longer. I ran forward, aiming my gun at Kael’s shoulder and pulling the trigger.

Bang!

The bullet shattered Kael’s shoulder. He screamed in agony, his grip slackening instantly. Taking advantage of the opening, Daniel spun around, twisted Kael’s wrist, and drove the dagger back into the assassin’s chest.

Kael stared at Daniel, shock and pain washing over his face. His body convulsed a few times, then slumped onto the cold, rusted roof.

Silence returned, save for Daniel’s heavy breathing and the distant roar of the ocean.

Daniel knelt there, clutching his wounded shoulder, staring at the lifeless body of his mentor. He was dead. The final threat from the past had been erased.

I ran to him, kneeling by his side, pressing my hands over his wound to staunch the blood.

"Are you okay?" I asked, tears of relief and worry streaming down my face.

"I’m okay," Daniel smiled weakly, stroking my dusty face. "The game is over."
