Chapter 60 - The Choice

Less than two minutes later, Daniel appeared from the secondary stairs of the warehouse. Seeing me on the roof with Kael’s gun pressed to my temple, the look of panic on his face was unmistakable.
"Drop the guns, Daniel," Kael repeated, his finger tightening on the trigger.
Daniel didn't hesitate. He tossed his rifle onto the metal roof, kicking it away. Then he pulled out his knife and handgun, dropping them too. He raised his hands, walking slowly toward us.
"Let her go, Kael. This is between you and me," Daniel said, his voice calm yet commanding.
"You're pathetic," Kael shook his head, his eyes full of contempt. "I made you a god of death, but you’ve reduced yourself to a mortal because of useless emotions."
"You’re wrong, Kael," Daniel replied, eyes locked on me. A silent signal passed between us—the kind that only those who have faced death together understand.

The split second Kael looked at me, Daniel moved.
