Chapter 53 - A Message in Blood

Daniel flipped over the final mercenary I had shot. He was wearing black tactical gear with no insignia. However, as Daniel ripped open his jacket, he found a satellite phone taped to his chest.
The phone suddenly lit up with a text message.
Well done, old student. Shipyard #4, St. Jude Harbor. Come alone, or I’ll send fifty more men to tear your paradise apart.
Daniel gripped the phone until his knuckles turned white.
"He wants to lure you out of the house," I said, reading the message over his shoulder.
"St. Jude Harbor is about thirty miles away," Daniel said, his voice dropping. "It’s a labyrinth of rusted steel. The perfect location for an ambush."
"You can't go alone," I insisted. "It’s clearly a trap."
"I know. But if I don't go, he won't stop. He’ll make our lives a living hell."

Daniel looked at me, placing his hands on my shoulders. "If I don't return before dawn..."
"Don't say it," I interrupted, looking into his eyes. "We stand together. If you walk into that trap, I’ll be your backup."
