Once everything was tidied up, we stepped out onto the balcony. The sun had fully risen, casting golden light over the deep blue ocean. The cool sea breeze blew, washing away the scent of gunpowder and dust.
Daniel wrapped his arms around my waist from behind, his chin resting on my shoulder. His warm body felt steady.
"This time," Daniel whispered, his voice blending with the sound of the waves. "The demons are truly buried."
"And we are still here," I replied, placing my hand over his.
I looked out to the horizon, where the sea met the sky. This peace was no illusion. It was a tangible reality, as solid as the wooden house protecting us. We had faced our greatest fears and conquered them.
