Chapter 31 - The Maximum Security Wing

The federal penitentiary sat an hour outside the city limits, a massive fortress of concrete, steel wire, and absolute misery. Camila sat in the back of the town car, watching the towering guard towers approach.

She had worn a pristine white blouse and a sharp black blazer. She wanted to look entirely untouched by the squalor of this place.

After passing through three layers of metal detectors and security pat-downs, she was escorted into a sterile, brightly lit visitor’s room. A thick wall of reinforced, bulletproof glass separated the room into two halves. A small metal grating served as the only acoustic bridge.

Camila sat down in the hard plastic chair. Her natural breathing was steady. She folded her hands on the narrow counter and waited. A heavy steel door on the other side of the glass buzzed open.
