The drive back to the capital took six hours. The deep blue coastline of Nayarit was replaced by the towering concrete and suffocating smog of the city. Camila sat in the back of a private car, her posture rigid, her dark eyes reflecting the passing streetlights.

She was no longer the frightened girl in the maid's uniform, nor was she the panicked bride. She wore a tailored black coat, her hair pulled back into a severe, elegant knot.

The car pulled up to a modest but modern apartment building where Lupita now lived. Lupita was waiting in the lobby. When she saw Camila step out of the car, she didn't rush forward with exaggerated, theatrical hugs. She saw the lethal, quiet determination in Camila’s eyes and simply nodded.

"I found the lawyer," Lupita said as they stepped into the elevator. "He reviewed the scans you sent. He said the statute of limitations for fraud might be tricky, but murder and extortion have no expiration date."

"Good," Camila replied, her jaw clenching slightly.
