Chapter 55 - The Syndicate's Offer

Olivia and Aris stepped into the freezing, hyper-cooled environment of the master server vault. The two security guards followed closely behind, their initial confusion slowly morphing back into highly trained suspicion as they watched Aris immediately rush toward the primary terminal rather than checking the broadcast latency.

"Ma'am, I need to see your explicit physical authorization codes," the lead guard demanded, finally raising his weapon and aiming it squarely at Olivia’s back. "Step away from the console."

Before Olivia could react, a slow, mocking applause echoed from the shadows of the server racks.

Elias Blackwood stepped into the blue light of the vault. He was impeccably dressed in a tailored charcoal suit, his silver hair perfectly styled. He didn't look surprised; he looked deeply, terrifyingly amused.

"You truly are a marvel, Olivia," Elias said, his voice smooth and cultured. He gestured for the guards to lower their weapons, though they kept them ready. "You bypassed a tactical hit squad in Geneva, coordinated a transnational rescue of Dr. Thorne’s parents, and bluffed your way into a biometric vault. You are wasted in the non-profit sector."

Olivia stood her ground, discreetly shielding Aris, who was frantically plugging the payload drive into the master terminal just out of Elias's line of sight.

"You knew we were coming," Olivia stated, her voice devoid of fear.

"Of course I knew," Elias smiled, walking slowly toward her. "I allowed you to enter. I wanted to look you in the eyes before this war concluded. You possess a spectacular drive, Olivia. But you lack vision. You believe curing cancer is the ultimate goal. You don't understand that chronic illness is the absolute foundation of the modern global economy. If your AI succeeds, millions of healthcare jobs vanish overnight. Trillions in pharmaceutical investments evaporate. Global markets crash. You are not a savior; you are an economic terrorist."

"I am a mother who refuses to let monsters profit from human suffering," Olivia shot back, her eyes blazing with absolute conviction.

Elias sighed, shaking his head. "I am going to offer you a choice, Olivia. Surrender the payload drive. In exchange, I will publicly lift the injunction against your AI, allowing it to be used exclusively in developing nations where my profit margins are negligible. You get to save the poor, and I keep the developed world. We coexist. If you refuse, my guards will execute you and Dr. Thorne in this vault, and I will personally dismantle your son’s legacy."

Olivia looked at the cold, calculating billionaire. She felt the heavy weight of the payload drive in Aris's hands behind her. She knew the choice wasn't a compromise; it was a surrender to absolute evil.

"I don't make deals with monsters," Olivia said softly.

Elias’s smile vanished. "Then die." He nodded to his guards.
