Chapter 54 - The Lion's Den

The exterior of the Grand Congress Center was a fortress. Heavily armed security personnel patrolled the perimeter, and news vans from every major global network were parked in tight clusters, their massive satellite dishes broadcasting the highly anticipated event live to the world.
Olivia and Aris bypassed the chaotic front entrance, navigating through the cold, driving rain toward the rear loading docks. They slipped past a distracted delivery crew and descended a rusted, spiral concrete stairwell into the absolute depths of the facility's subterranean infrastructure.
The sub-basement was a cavernous, echoing maze of massive steel pipes, humming generators, and thick condensation. It felt less like a convention center and more like the engine room of a massive, sinking ship.
"The cooling towers are just ahead," Aris whispered, checking the stolen blueprints on her tablet. Her hands were shaking, but her resolve was absolute.
They reached a massive, reinforced steel blast door marked with heavy yellow warning stripes. Above the door, a digital timer counted down.
00:15... 00:14...
"Get ready," Olivia instructed, stepping into the shadows beside the heavy hydraulics.
At exactly zero, the klaxons blared a short, sharp warning. The massive steel doors hissed violently, releasing a thick, blinding cloud of white steam, and slowly began to part.
Olivia and Aris sprinted through the gap, enveloped entirely by the suffocating, hot vapor. They emerged on the other side into a pristine, brightly lit, hyper-sterile corridor. At the end of the hall stood the master server vault—a formidable glass and titanium room housing the pulsing blue towers that controlled the entire global network of the summit and, by extension, Ouroboros Pharmaceuticals' local intranet.
But the vault was not unguarded.
Two massive private security contractors, dressed in tailored black suits and armed with suppressed submachine guns, stood directly in front of the biometric entry pad.
Olivia didn't break her stride. She walked forward with the absolute, uncompromising authority of an executive who owned the building.
"What are you doing standing out here?" Olivia snapped sharply, projecting her voice with furious arrogance before the guards could even raise their weapons. "The primary feed to the auditorium is experiencing latency issues. The CEO is on stage in five minutes! Open this door immediately!"
The guards hesitated, utterly confused by her commanding presence and the VIP lanyards bouncing on her chest. "Ma'am, this is a restricted area. We don't have authorization..."
"Do you want me to call Mr. Blackwood and tell him his keynote address is going to crash because his security team lacks basic operational initiative?" Olivia demanded, pulling out her phone and pretending to dial.
May you like
One of the guards, terrified of angering the notoriously ruthless Elias Blackwood, frantically swiped his keycard and pressed his thumb to the biometric scanner. "No, ma'am. Apologies. Going in now."
The heavy vault doors clicked open. Olivia smiled coldly. The Trojan horse was officially inside the gates.
