Chapter 31 - The Obsidian Breach

The Obsidian Hotel was a towering monument to exorbitant wealth, standing seventy stories high in the center of the financial district.

Captain Miller coordinated the breach with absolute precision. He didn't bring a massive, loud army of police cruisers that would tip Thorne off. He brought a highly specialized, elite SWAT unit in unmarked vehicles.

Olivia rode the service elevator alongside Miller and six heavily armed tactical officers. Her heart was pounding a frantic rhythm against her ribs, but her hands were completely steady. She had survived Vanessa’s physical assault; she had survived the shootout at her penthouse. She was no longer a victim waiting to be rescued. She was a warrior actively neutralizing a threat to her child.

The elevator chimed softly as it reached the 70th floor.

"Comms are completely dark," the SWAT leader whispered, using hand signals to direct his men. "Max’s blackout is holding. They have no idea we are coming."

The doors slid open. The penthouse corridor was lined with expensive artwork and plush carpeting. Two heavily armed mercenaries stood guard outside the massive double doors of Thorne’s private suite.

Before the guards could even register the threat, the SWAT team deployed stun grenades. A blinding flash of light and a deafening crack filled the hallway.

Miller and the officers moved with terrifying speed, neutralizing the stunned guards and securing them with zip-ties in seconds.

"Breaching the main doors," the SWAT leader commanded.

A heavy battering ram smashed through the ornate double doors, shattering the locks. The tactical team poured into the lavish penthouse, weapons raised, shouting commands.

Olivia followed closely behind Miller, stepping into the massive, sunlit living room.

Elias Thorne was standing by the floor-to-ceiling windows, clutching a satellite phone, frantically trying to get a signal. He was a tall, distinguished-looking man in a bespoke suit, but his face was currently twisted into a mask of pure, unadulterated panic.

"Drop the phone!" Miller roared, aiming his weapon directly at Thorne’s chest.

Thorne froze, looking at the tactical team, and then his eyes landed on Olivia.
