Chapter 45 - The Architect's Warning

The morning after the global blackout of the AI, the international press descended upon Geneva like a pack of starving wolves. News outlets ran frantic, sensationalized headlines declaring the miraculous cancer-diagnostic tool a complete, catastrophic failure. Ouroboros Pharmaceuticals’ stock surged by twenty percent in pre-market trading, as investors celebrated the survival of the traditional, highly profitable chemotherapy industry.

Olivia sat in the hotel conference room, ignoring the blaring televisions and focusing entirely on a massive stack of encrypted server logs. Arthur had spent the entire night tracing the origin of the malicious code hidden within the WHO patch.

"We are bleeding public trust by the second, Olivia," Arthur noted, handing her a fresh cup of coffee. "Blackwood’s PR firms are flooding the internet with fabricated horror stories of the AI misdiagnosing patients."

"Let them talk," Olivia said coldly, not looking up from the data. "PR is just noise. I am looking for the mechanic who built the bomb. Blackwood is a CEO, not a coder. He hired someone incredibly brilliant to construct a malware virus capable of subverting David’s architecture. If we find the architect, we find the proof that Ouroboros engineered the sabotage."

Suddenly, Arthur’s burner phone—a deeply encrypted device used strictly for anonymous whistleblower tips—vibrated on the glass table.

Arthur picked it up, engaging the voice-distortion filter. "Speak."

"You pulled the plug faster than he anticipated," a terrified, breathless voice echoed through the speaker. It was a young woman, her words trembling with raw, undisguised panic. "Blackwood thought you would hesitate to protect your stock valuation. He underestimated your ethics."

Olivia leaned closer to the phone. "Who is this?"

"My name is Dr. Aris Thorne. I am the lead synthetic algorithmic developer for Ouroboros Pharmaceuticals," the woman confessed. "I built the Trojan virus. Blackwood told me it was a necessary security measure to protect patient data from your invasive AI. But when I saw the actual deployment parameters... I realized it was designed to cause mass misdiagnoses. It was designed to kill the cure."

"Where are you, Dr. Thorne?" Olivia asked, recognizing the desperate tone of someone who knew they were being hunted.

"I fled the Ouroboros corporate campus in Zurich three hours ago," Aris sobbed quietly. "I took the primary source code of the malware on an encrypted hard drive. It proves Blackwood ordered the sabotage. But his private security contractors are actively hunting me. If they find me, I am dead."

"We will protect you," Arthur promised immediately, his tactical mindset engaging. "Give me your location. Do not move, do not access the internet, and do not trust anyone in a uniform."

"I’m hiding in the abandoned freight terminal at the edge of the industrial district," Aris whispered. "Please hurry. They are already sweeping the perimeter."
