Chapter 29 - The Interrogation

Olivia did not return to the city in a high-profile convoy. She and Miller slipped back into the metropolis in an unmarked, beat-up sedan, bypassing the foundation's main entrance entirely.

They used an old service elevator to access the executive floor of the foundation. The halls were quiet; most of the staff had already gone home for the evening.

Marcus Vance was sitting at his large desk, bathed in the glow of his computer monitor, nervously checking his watch. He jumped nearly out of his skin when the heavy oak door to his office was suddenly locked from the inside.

He looked up to see Olivia standing there, flanked by Captain Miller, whose hand rested ominously on his holstered weapon.

"Olivia!" Marcus stammered, his face draining of all color. "I... I thought you were in hiding! The news said your penthouse was attacked."

"It was," Olivia said, walking slowly toward his desk. "But I survived. Thanks for asking."

Marcus tried to force a sympathetic smile, but he was sweating profusely. "Thank God. What can I do for you?"

Olivia didn't shout. She didn't slam her hands on the desk. She simply pulled out a printed copy of the Cyprus shell company transfer and laid it gently over his keyboard.

Marcus stared at the paper. His breathing became shallow, rapid, and panicked.

"You sold the blueprints to my panic room," Olivia said, her voice devoid of any warmth. "You told the men who came to murder my baby exactly where to find him. For a summer home, Marcus?"

"Olivia, you have to understand!" Marcus pleaded, tears welling in his eyes as he stood up, backing against the window. "Thorne threatened my family! He said if I didn't cooperate, he would kill my daughters! I didn't have a choice!"

"There is always a choice," Miller growled, stepping forward.

"I need to know his location, Marcus," Olivia demanded, her eyes burning with unyielding fire. "Where is Elias Thorne operating from? Give me his physical location, or I will hand you over to the feds right now for conspiracy to commit murder."

Marcus swallowed hard, terrified. "He... he operates out of a private suite at the top of the Obsidian Hotel. It’s highly secured. You can't get to him."

"Watch me," Olivia said.
