Chapter 27 - The Cyber Mercenary

The threat hung in the air like a thick, poisonous fog. Thorne wasn't just threatening her life anymore; he was threatening the hundreds of innocent women and children who relied on the foundation’s safehouses and community centers.

"He's going to massacre innocent people just to make a point," Miller said, his fists clenched in helpless rage. "We can't evacuate the entire foundation network in twenty-four hours without causing a massive public panic."

"We aren't going to evacuate," Olivia said, her eyes blazing with a dangerous, calculating fire. "We are going to drain him dry before he can issue the order."

"How?" Miller asked in disbelief. "Thorne's money is hidden in dozens of overlapping international shell companies. The FBI has been trying to crack his financial network for a decade."

"The FBI has to play by the rules," Olivia replied smoothly. "I don't. Arthur, when we were investigating Vanessa, you mentioned a rogue hacker who helped the feds bypass the Harrington firewalls. Someone who operates outside the law."

Miller frowned, realizing exactly who she was talking about. "Max. She's a cyber-mercenary. She doesn't care about justice; she only cares about getting paid. She's incredibly dangerous."

"Get her on a secure line," Olivia commanded. "I have a foundation with hundreds of millions of dollars. I can afford her."

Thirty minutes later, an encrypted video call was established on a secure laptop. The screen displayed a young woman with neon-blue hair, sitting in a dark room illuminated by dozens of glowing monitors.

"Well, well, the famous Olivia Harrington," Max smirked, chewing loudly on a piece of gum. "To what do I owe the pleasure of this highly illegal communication?"

"I need you to hack into Elias Thorne’s primary offshore banking network," Olivia stated bluntly. "I need you to freeze his accounts and transfer every single cent of his operating capital into an untraceable void."

Max stopped chewing. Her eyes widened. "You want me to rob Elias Thorne? Lady, I like money, but I also like breathing. The man is a ghost."

"I will pay you ten million dollars," Olivia offered without blinking. "Five million upfront, five million when his accounts hit zero."

Max stared at the screen for a long, tense moment. Finally, a wicked grin spread across her face. "Send the routing number. Let's go hunting."
