Chapter 38 - The Gala of Deception

The Grand Plaza Hotel was a glittering monument to high society, awash in blinding camera flashes and expensive champagne. Hundreds of politicians, judges, and corporate titans mingled in the massive ballroom, completely oblivious to the explosive confrontation that was about to unfold.

Victoria Harrington slipped into the Gala wearing a stunning, blood-red evening gown, projecting an aura of absolute, tragic victimhood. She immediately cornered the District Attorney near the main stage, weeping dramatically about how she was an innocent businesswoman being hunted by dangerous cartels.

"You must grant me federal protection," Victoria pleaded, wiping fake tears from her eyes. "Olivia Miller framed me! She is the true criminal!"

Before the bewildered District Attorney could respond, the massive crystal chandeliers above them suddenly dimmed.

The soft classical music playing over the ballroom speakers abruptly cut off, replaced by a sharp, piercing screech of microphone feedback. The crowd fell into a stunned, nervous silence.

The towering digital screens flanking the main stage, which had been displaying charity logos, suddenly flickered.

Olivia Miller did not walk through the front doors. She stepped out from behind the heavy velvet curtains of the main stage, stepping directly into the spotlight.

She wore a sharp, immaculate white suit. She did not look like a fleeing terrorist; she looked like an absolute queen commanding her court.

"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen," Olivia’s voice boomed through the hacked audio system, echoing powerfully across the silent ballroom.

Victoria froze, her face draining of all color. "Arrest her!" Victoria screamed, pointing frantically at the stage. "She is an international fugitive!"

Federal agents in the crowd instinctively reached for their weapons, but before they could move, Olivia raised her hand.

"Before anyone makes a mistake," Olivia announced loudly. "I suggest you look at the screens."
