Chapter 51 - The Whistleblower's Price

The plan required flawless execution and absolute secrecy, but in the world of corporate espionage, variables are incredibly deadly. As Arthur and Olivia prepared the tactical gear and the encrypted payload drive, Aris Thorne sat quietly in the corner of the safehouse, staring at her burner phone.

"Aris, we leave for Zurich in one hour," Olivia said, zipping up a dark, tailored blazer that perfectly concealed her protective vest. "You will remain here. We have secured a private extraction team that will move you to a non-extradition sanctuary once the broadcast goes live."

Aris didn't respond. She was trembling, staring at a single text message that had just bypassed her phone’s heavy encryption.

Olivia noticed the sheer terror radiating from the young developer and immediately walked over. "Aris? What’s wrong?"

Aris slowly turned the phone around. The message was not text; it was a high-definition photograph. It showed an elderly man and woman sitting in a beautifully furnished living room, seemingly unaware that the photograph was being taken from inside their own home. A laser sight cast a distinct, terrifying red dot directly onto the elderly man's chest.

"They are my parents," Aris whispered, tears spilling down her cheeks. "They live in a quiet suburb outside of London. Blackwood’s men are inside their house, Olivia. The text says if I don't walk out of this safehouse and surrender the drive to them in the next ten minutes, they will execute my family."

Arthur cursed under his breath, immediately rushing to the monitors to check the perimeter cameras. "They tracked the localized ping when Aris received the message. Blackwood’s tactical team is already in the building. They are stacking up in the stairwell."

"I have to go to them," Aris cried, standing up frantically and reaching for the payload drive. "I can't let my parents die for this! Please, Olivia, let me give them the drive!"

"If you give them the drive, they will kill your parents anyway to ensure no loose ends," Olivia stated with absolute, chilling clarity, grabbing Aris’s wrists gently but firmly. "Elias Blackwood does not leave survivors. He is using your love against you, just like Harrington tried to use David against me."

"Then what do we do?" Aris sobbed, entirely broken by the impossible choice.

"We fight," Arthur growled, drawing his weapon and aiming it directly at the reinforced door of the safehouse. "Olivia, take the payload drive and Aris. Get to the fire escape. I will hold the breach."

Before Olivia could argue, the heavy steel door of the safehouse exploded inward in a shower of blinding sparks and concussive force. The monsters had finally arrived.
