Chapter 52 - The Partnership
That evening, the firm threw a massive celebration. Diane, who was now in her late sixties, stood at the head of a long table at a beautiful downtown restaurant.
She raised a glass of champagne, commanding the room’s attention.
"Forty years ago, I started practicing family law because I was tired of watching bullies win," Diane announced. "I have fought thousands of battles. But the greatest victory of my entire career was the day Emily Carter walked into my office."
Diane looked down the table at my daughter, her eyes filled with immense pride.

"I am officially retiring at the end of this month," Diane declared, to a collective gasp from the staff. "And I am leaving the firm in the hands of the sharpest, most relentless attorney I have ever met. To Emily. The new managing partner of Carter & Associates."
The table erupted into cheers. Emily covered her mouth, tears of joy streaming down her face. She stood up and hugged Diane tightly. The terrified, bruised pregnant girl from Columbus was now the master of her own empire.
