Chapter 29 - Preparing the Arsenal

With Ryan sitting in a county holding cell pending a bail hearing, Diane transformed our dining room into a relentless war room. The trial date was officially set for the following Monday.
Diane laid out three distinct, heavily tabbed binders on the table.
"We are not just playing defense; we are dropping a nuclear bomb on his narrative," Diane explained, pacing the room with a fierce, predatory energy. "Binder A is the physical and emotional abuse. We have the hospital records, the sworn affidavits from the nurses, and your detailed testimony regarding the isolation tactics used in Columbus."
Emily nodded, sipping her tea. She looked incredibly focused.
"Binder B is the financial fraud," Diane continued, tapping the second folder. "This destroys his claim of being a stable provider. We have the subpoenaed bank records proving his quarter-million-dollar gambling debt, the hidden crypto losses, and the emails proving he intended to use you as a tax shield. He is entirely broke, Emily. His parents have been secretly bailing him out for months."
"And Binder C?" Mark asked, crossing his arms.
"Binder C is the golden ticket," Diane smiled. "The police report from his arrest two nights ago. He violently violated a court-ordered protection order, assaulted a doorframe, and screamed threats in the middle of the night. It proves absolute, terrifying instability. No judge in this state will grant him unsupervised access to a goldfish, let alone an infant."
Diane sat down across from Emily, her expression softening into genuine, profound respect.
"They are going to try to break you on the stand, Emily," Diane warned gently. "His lawyer will call you a liar. They will blame your hormones. They will try to make you look crazy. Can you handle it?"

Emily looked toward the living room, where Lily was happily cooing in her playpen.
"I survived his pantry," Emily said, her eyes cold and absolute. "I can survive a courtroom."
