Chapter 44 - The Ultimatum Delivered

The very next morning, an opulent, wax-sealed envelope was delivered via private courier directly to Evangeline’s office.

It was a formal demand for a private meeting at the Sterling family’s heavily guarded estate on the outskirts of the city.

"You are not going,"

Eleanor commanded, reading the letter with absolute disgust.

"It is a trap."

"It is an invitation,"

Evangeline corrected her, her blue eyes blazing with a fierce, brilliant light.

"If Arthur Sterling wants to look me in the eye and threaten my child, I am going to give him exactly what he asks for. And then I am going to burn his legacy to the ground."

"I am sending the entire tactical team with you,"

David insisted, already reaching for his radio.

"No,"

Evangeline ordered smoothly.

"I am walking in there alone. If I bring an army, he will think I am afraid. I want him to know that I am the only army I need."
