Chapter 15 - The Lioness

Five heavily armed men, dressed entirely in tactical black gear and wearing night-vision goggles, poured into the smoke-filled vestibule.
David and the two other security guards in the room opened fire instantly.
The deafening roar of gunfire shattered the silence of the penthouse. Muzzle flashes illuminated the dark room like strobe lights, casting terrifying shadows against the expensive artwork and vaulted ceilings.
Claire huddled on the floor behind the thick, solid marble of the kitchen island, covering her ears and pressing her face against her knees in absolute terror.
Eleanor did not cower.
She crawled over to a downed security guard, pried his backup pistol from his holster, and checked the magazine with the practiced efficiency of a woman who had fought her way to the top of a brutal world.
Glass shattered everywhere. The massive, floor-to-ceiling windows of the penthouse were blown out by stray bullets, letting the freezing Chicago night wind howl into the room.

"They are not taking my daughter again!" Eleanor roared, rising from cover and firing three precise, calculated shots into the chest of an attacker advancing toward the kitchen.
She was a mother who had already lived through the hell of losing her child. She was absolutely, terrifyingly prepared to kill to ensure it never happened again.
