Chapter 43 - The Patriarch Emerges

"We traced the shell companies,"
David stated, swallowing hard.
"The capital originates from a massive, old-money trust based in New York. The Sterling Family Trust."
The air in the boardroom turned to absolute ice.
Evangeline’s jaw clenched so tightly it looked like it was forged from steel.
"Richard’s father,"
Evangeline murmured, identifying the unseen enemy.
Arthur Sterling. He was the patriarch of the Sterling family, a man who operated entirely in the shadows, funneling his dark money through legitimate real estate ventures. He had remained silent when Richard was sent to federal prison, leading Evangeline to believe he had abandoned his disgraced son.
"He didn't abandon Richard,"
Eleanor said, walking into the boardroom, having heard the commotion.
"He was waiting. He was amassing his capital to strike when he thought we were distracted by our philanthropy."
"What does he want?"
David asked.
"He wants to destroy me,"

Evangeline stated with terrifying calm.
"And he wants to take Leo."
