The night of the Crawford Philanthropic Gala arrived.
The museum was a masterpiece of classical architecture, glowing brilliantly under massive spotlights. The red carpet was lined with international press, flashing cameras, and the city’s absolute elite.
Inside the penthouse, Evangeline was preparing for war.
She stood before a massive mirror. Beneath her stunning, floor-length crimson silk gown, she wore a custom-fitted, ultra-lightweight Kevlar tactical vest.
Eleanor stood behind her, clasping a stunning diamond necklace around Evangeline’s throat.
"Are you afraid, Evie?"
Eleanor asked softly, meeting her daughter's eyes in the mirror.
"I am a Crawford,"
Evangeline replied, her voice completely steady.
