Chapter 67: The Bloodline War

Chapter 67: The Bloodline War
Leo lunged forward, his movements desperate and fast.
Sarah didn't retreat. She dodged the slash of the scalpel, her heavy wool coat absorbing the blow as the blade ripped through the fabric. She drove the grip of her Sig Sauer hard into Leo’s ribs, sending him crashing into a row of glass medical trays.
Crunch!
The glass shattered, mixing with the chemical fluids on the floor. Leo scrambled to his feet, his face twisted in rage, but before he could strike again, Arthur Hale burst through the door.
Arthur didn't fire his weapon. He grabbed Leo from behind, slamming him into the steel support pillar of the hold. The two men—the soldier and the son—fought with a brutal, visceral hatred that had been building for twenty years.

"You sold your father's soul, Leo!" Arthur roared, driving a hard elbow into Leo’s jaw.
"My father was a coward!" Leo screamed back, slipping a small, silver wire saw from his sleeve and wrapping it around Arthur's throat. "He wanted to die with his secrets! I want to live!"
Sarah looked at the computer terminal. The purge protocol she had initiated in Zurich hadn't deleted the network; it had merely compiled it here, into this floating server. If this ship left the river, the network would reset globally.
She reached for her gun, aiming it at the central processor core of the laboratory.

"Sarah, no!" a voice shouted from the walkway above.
Thomas Sterling stood on the iron stairs, his weapon pointed directly at Hope’s head inside the sling. "If you destroy that server, the sequence degrades. The medicine dies. I die. Your husband dies. And one day... your daughter will develop the same condition. You aren't saving her, Sarah. You're signing her death warrant."
