Chapter 58: The Flight to the East

Chapter 58: The Flight to the East

Three days later. The port of Hamburg, Germany.

The world was in absolute chaos. The "Zurich Purge" had triggered a global logistics shutdown. Major ports across Europe and North America were dark, their automated systems frozen. The news anchors were calling it The Silent War.

Inside a rusted cargo container hidden on a low-profile freight vessel heading toward the Mediterranean, Sarah sat in the dark.

Arthur lay on a cot across from her, his chest wrapped in surgical tape, his breathing shallow but stable. He had survived the mountain, but he was a man without a country, without a flag, and without an army.

"The feds are looking for us everywhere, Sarah," Arthur said, his eyes opening in the dim amber light of a battery lamp. "Reyes managed to send an encrypted wire before her unit was dismantled. They know we crossed the German border."

Sarah was nursing Hope, her eyes fixed on the steel wall. "Where are we going, Arthur?"

"The only place The Consortium never owned," Arthur said softly. "The old shipping lanes in Southeast Asia. My brother Thomas has a contact in Vietnam. A small river delta near the coast. No networks. No automated tracking. Just dirt and water."

Sarah looked at her daughter. Hope smiled up at her, completely unaware that her name was currently written on the red-notice files of every intelligence agency in the civilized world.

"We don't exist anymore, Arthur," Sarah said.

"Good," Arthur whispered. "That makes us hard to kill."
