Chapter 51: The Resurrection of Leo

Chapter 51: The Resurrection of Leo

The elevator bell didn't just chime—it sounded like a death knell in the sterile silence of the Swiss clinic.

Sarah didn't freeze. The panic that used to control her had been burned out long ago in the waters of the Thames. She grabbed the black Sig Sauer from the medical tray, checked the chamber, and scooped Hope out of the crib in one fluid, defensive motion.

The heavy oak door to her private room swung open.

Leo Vance stood in the doorway. He looked identical to the man she had buried in an empty grave eighteen months ago, save for a thin, pale scar running from his temple down to his jawline. His blue eyes—the same eyes Hope carried—were calm, calculated, and terrifyingly clear.

Behind him stood Arthur Hale. The gray uniform of The Consortium fit him perfectly, his face a granite mask of pure military detachment.

"Hello, Sarah," Leo said, his voice smooth, carrying that familiar, aristocratic warmth that used to make her feel safe. "You look beautiful. Switzerland suits you."

Sarah kept the red laser dot of her weapon locked directly betw

een his eyes. "One step, Leo. Give me one reason not to pull this trigger."

Leo didn't flinch. He slowly raised his hands, showing they were empty. "You could pull it. But then you’d never know why my father had to fake my death. You’d never know that James didn't write that letter to protect you, Sarah. He wrote it to hide you from me."

Sarah’s hand didn't shake, but her mind spun. "You're a monster. You let me go to that mansion. You let Eleanor push me over that railing."

"Eleanor wasn't supposed to push you," Leo said, his voice dropping into a cold, transactional whisper. "She was supposed to deliver you to Zurich. She let her vanity get in the way. That’s why Arthur had to catch you. That's why Arthur had to play the hero."

Sarah looked at Arthur. The marine didn't look away. His voice was a low, hollow rasp. "I told you, Sarah. I protect the flag. You just never knew whose name was written on it."
