Chapter 52: The Zurich Extraction

Chapter 52: The Zurich Extraction
"The clinic is surrounded, Sarah," Arthur said, stepping forward, his hand resting on the grip of a suppressed submachine gun beneath his coat. "The local police aren't coming. The regional director signed the waiver ten minutes ago. To the Swiss government, this room is empty."
Sarah looked out the window. Down in the snow-covered courtyard, four black Mercedes vans idled, their exhaust plumes rising into the freezing mountain air. Mercenaries wearing The Consortium’s elite asset badges stood at the perimeter.
"I short-circuited the database in London," Sarah said, her thumb resting on Hope’s warm back. "The money is frozen. The Sterling accounts are dead. You have nothing."
Leo laughed—a soft, patronizing sound. "The money in London was pocket change, Sarah. A drop in the bucket. The real prize was the encryption ledger inside the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology. The biometric data your thumb left on the bank vault in Toledo didn't just unlock Thomas Sterling’s files. It unlocked the original global patent for the genetic sequence inside your daughter."

He pointed to Hope. "She isn't just a password, Sarah. She is the property of Vance Biotech. The sovereign fund in Zurich just approved the final asset transfer. We don't need your hard drives anymore. We just need the child."
Before Leo could take another step, a sharp, metallic ping echoed from the hallway.
A flashbang grenade rolled through the doorway, exploding in a blinding sheet of white light and deafening noise.
Sarah, anticipating the blast from her tactical training in the marsh, dropped to the floor, shielding Hope with her body. Through the smoke, a team of operators wearing unmarked white winter camo burst through the windows from the roof lines.

"Secure the package!" a voice roared.
It was Thomas Sterling's Aegis forces. Her father hadn't stayed in London. He had followed the bloodline to the mountains.
