Chapter 9 - The Unexpected Return

Maria let out a tiny, stifled whimper from the corner of the room.

Eleanor stood up straight, smoothing the front of her expensive silk dress with perfectly manicured fingers.

"Leave her,"

Eleanor barked, addressing the paralyzed household staff.

None of the servants dared to speak.

"If any of you so much as hand her a napkin, you will be packing your bags and leaving this estate without a severance before sunset,"

Eleanor threatened.

"Let her get up herself. She needs to learn her place in this family."

That was when the heavy brass handles of the dining room’s double mahogany doors turned.

The doors didn't just open; they swung wide open with a violent, heavy force that made the crystal chandelier above the table rattle.
