Chapter 8 - The Cruel Countdown

"You are nothing but a clumsy, fragile liability,"
Eleanor said, her voice raising so every servant in the room could hear her.
Chloe let out a quiet sob, curling her body tightly around her stomach.
"You thought getting pregnant would make you untouchable in this house,"
Eleanor continued, pacing slowly around Chloe’s trembling body.
The sharp click-clack of Eleanor’s heels against the stone floor sounded like a countdown.
"You thought carrying my grandson would suddenly elevate you to my level,"
Eleanor mocked.
Chloe gritted her teeth, using both hands to slowly drag her knees closer to her chest.
Every movement sent a terrifying ache through her pelvis.
"But look at you now,"
Eleanor sneered, stopping just inches from Chloe’s face.
Eleanor leaned down, her heavy perfume suffocating the air around them.
