Chapter 37 - The Final Confrontation

Two days later, as William walked out of the hospital lobby to retrieve some bags from his car, he stopped in his tracks.

Standing near the edge of the parking lot, huddled in a cheap raincoat against the drizzling weather, was Eleanor.

She looked absolutely pathetic. She had aged ten years in a few months, her face gaunt, her posture broken.

When she saw William, she took a hesitant, desperate step forward.

"William,"

Eleanor rasped, her voice weak and pathetic.

"I heard the news. Please, William. Just let me see my grandson. Just through the window. I am begging you."

William looked at the woman who had given birth to him. He felt absolutely no anger, no hatred, and no pity. He felt nothing but a cold, clinical emptiness.

"Arthur does not have a grandmother,"

William said, his voice carrying the finality of a judge passing a death sentence.

"William, please! I am dying out here!"

Eleanor sobbed, falling to her knees on the wet pavement.

"You died the moment you touched my wife,"

William stated flatly.

"If you ever come near this hospital, or my home again, I will release the video."

William turned his back on her, walking back into the warm, bright lobby of the hospital, leaving Eleanor weeping in the rain, completely erased from the world she once ruled.
