Chapter 22 - The Desperate Spin

Eleanor’s chest heaved. Her flawless composure had completely shattered, leaving behind a frantic, cornered predator.
She looked at her brother-in-law, Richard, then at Beatrice, desperately searching for a lifeline in a sea of horrified faces.
"It is a forgery!"
Eleanor shrieked, her voice echoing shrilly off the painted frescoes.
"He has doctored the footage! He is trying to frame me because that little tramp wants to isolate him from his own blood!"
William slowly reached into the inner pocket of his charcoal suit.
"A forgery, Mother?"
William asked, his voice dangerously smooth.
"I suppose the medical report from Zambrano Hellion Hospital is a forgery as well? The report detailing the blunt force trauma to her pelvis, and the near-fatal shockwave to the placenta?"
Eleanor took a frantic step backward, her diamond bracelets clinking loudly in the silent room.
"She slipped! I was trying to catch her!"
Eleanor cried, pointing a perfectly manicured finger at the blank wall.
"You all know how fragile she is! You know she cannot be trusted to tell the truth!"
"Uncle Julian,"
William said, completely ignoring his mother’s frantic screaming.
Julian flinched, instinctively straightening his tie.
"Yes, William?"
Julian answered, his lawyer's instincts immediately assessing the catastrophic legal liabilities of what he had just witnessed.
"As chief counsel for the Sterling Trust, what is the mandatory legal protocol when a board member is caught on tape committing aggravated felony assault against a pregnant woman?"
William asked coldly.
Julian swallowed hard, looking at Eleanor, and then looking back at the undisputed king of the family empire.

"Immediate removal from the board, pending criminal investigation,"
Julian stated formally, choosing his side in an instant.
