Chapter 7 - The Matriarch's Mockery

Chloe pressed her palm against the freezing marble, her arm shaking violently as she tried to push her heavy body up.
Her palm slipped on the polished stone, and her shoulder dropped back down with a heavy thud.
Eleanor let out a dry, mocking laugh that sent chills down Chloe’s spine.
"Pathetic,"
Eleanor sneered, taking a slow, deliberate step closer.
"You can't even stand up on your own."
Chloe’s cheek throbbed where the diamonds had broken the skin.
"Please,"
Chloe whispered, her voice cracking as a tear spilled over her nose and splashed onto the marble.
"The baby..."
"Oh, spare me the theatrics,"
Eleanor snapped, rolling her eyes.

Eleanor stepped forward and lifted her pointed designer heel.
She kicked the side of the specialized maternity chair, sending it spinning backward until it slammed into a decorative marble pillar twenty feet away.
