Chapter 13 - The Promise
A deafening silence filled the small hospital room.
William looked at his beautiful, terrified wife, and the white-hot rage in his chest crystallized into pure, calculated ice.
"William,"
Chloe whispered, her voice shaking.
"She pulled the chair. I didn’t fall. She pulled it on purpose."
"I know,"
William said smoothly, his thumb stroking her uninjured cheek.
"She was trying to hurt the baby,"
Chloe cried.
"She is never going to be near you again,"
William promised, his voice devoid of any emotion.
"Where are you going?"
Chloe asked as William slowly stood up.
"I have to go back to the house,"
William said, buttoning his suit jacket.
"Please don’t fight with her, she always twists it,"
Chloe pleaded.
"I’m not going to fight with her, Chloe,"
