Chapter 39 - The Legacy of Love

Later that evening, after the guests had departed, the mansion fell into a peaceful, comfortable silence.
Maria and the staff were cleaning up the grand parlor, laughing softly amongst themselves. William walked into the room, holding a sleeping Arthur against his shoulder.
"Leave the rest for tomorrow, Maria,"
William said warmly.
"You all worked incredibly hard today. Go home and rest."
"Thank you, Mr. Sterling,"
Maria smiled, bowing her head respectfully.
"It was a beautiful day. The most beautiful this house has ever seen."
William nodded, looking around the room. The oppressive, terrifying history of the Sterling matriarchs was permanently broken. He was a different kind of king, one who ruled through respect, protection, and absolute devotion to his family.
