Chapter 4 - The Fall

Chloe tried to catch her breath, one hand instinctively dropping down to cradle her swollen, aching stomach.
Her other hand gripped the armrest of her custom maternity chair.
Eleanor looked down at Chloe’s trembling hand gripping the dark leather armrest.
A cold, sharp smile touched the older woman's perfectly painted lips.
"You are an absolute disgrace,"
Eleanor hissed, her voice dripping with pure disgust.
Before Chloe could stabilize her shaking legs, Eleanor reached out and grabbed the high back of the heavy medical chair.
She didn't just pull it.
She yanked it backward with every ounce of her strength.
The rubber wheels screeched violently against the pristine marble floor.
Chloe’s only point of balance vanished into thin air.
Panic surged through her chest as gravity instantly took over.

She threw her arms out, twisting her body in mid-air in a desperate attempt to protect her unborn child, but there was nothing left to hold onto.
Chloe crashed hard onto the cold, unforgiving marble floor.
